Sony and Konami used today’s PlayStation showcase to officially unveil their “Metal Gear Solid 3” full remake, first rumored back in 2021, which is going by the title “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater”.
Tommy Williams, Konami’s head of communications for the Americas, says in a statement to The Verge that “Delta [symbol] was chosen because the meaning that the symbol has fits the concept of the remake project”.
Though the fifth overall game published in the “Metal Gear” series, events in ‘Snake Eater’ are chronologically the first as the action follows Big Boss during the Cold War in the 1960s when he was known as Naked Snake.
The official synopsis for the remake says: “you’ll discover the origin story of iconic military operative Snake and begin to unravel the plot of the legendary Metal Gear series”.
The original first arrived on PS2 back in 2004, was eventually ported to PS3/360 as part of the “Metal Gear Solid HD Collection” alongside the second ‘Solid’ game and ‘Peace Walker’. It is still considered one of the best titles in the series.
Before that though, the “Metal Gear Solid Master Collection: Volume 1” is coming this Spring for PS5 and potentially other platforms. That will contain “Metal Gear Solid,” “Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty” (Master Collection Version) and “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” (Master Collection Version).
“Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
