French publisher Microids (“Syberia,” “Beyond a Steel Sky”) has unveiled a new trailer the adventure game “Tintin Reporter – Cigars of the Pharaoh” coming to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, XB1 & Switch this year.
Spanish developer Pendulo Studios, who previously worked with Microids on “Blacksad: Under the Skin” and “Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo” is crafting the game and a first look at some of the gameplay can be seen below.
In the works since early 2020, the tale is inspired by “Cigars of the Pharaoh,” the fourth volume in Herge’s “The Adventures of Tintin” first published from 1932-1934 and one of the most famous of the early “Tintin” stories.
The story follows the young Belgian reporter and his dog Snowy who are travelling and meet the eccentric Professor Sarcophagus whilst cruising the Mediterranean Sea.
Upon arrival in Egypt, they set out in search of the tomb of the Pharaoh Kih-Oskh where they uncover dead famed Egyptologists and boxes of cigars. Pursuing the mystery of these cigars, they travel across Arabia and India, and reveal the secrets of an international drug smuggling ring.
The story gets a follow-up in “The Blue Lotus” and introduces recurring characters such as detectives Thomson and Thompson and millionaire Rastapopoulos.
